British commuters' freesheet The Metro spoke with Ridley Scott this week to tie-in with Prometheus's Blu-ray and DVD release, as you might have guessed, the conversation turned to the possibilities for Prometheus 2 and Blade Runner 2. Describing Prometheus as having "evolved into a whole other universe", he sums up the end of his sci-fi horror epic this way: "You’ve got a person [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [Michael Fassbender’s ethically questionable android David] that functions and has an IQ of 350.
Uma Thurman has joined the increasingly stellar cast of Lars von Trier's supposedly pornographic drama Nymphomaniac, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Kill Bill actor joins Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Stacy Martin, Connie Nielsen and Christian Slater on the Danish arch-provocateur's new film, which is currently shooting in and around Cologne, Germany.
It's six years since Universal picked up Irene Nemirovsky's posthumous bestseller for a film adaptation, but Suite Francaise now finally seems to be coming together. Saul Dibb (The Duchess) has landed the directing and screenwriting gig, while Michelle Williams is in talks to star. Williams' role would be Lucille Angellier, a feisty French girl living under the German occupation, who faces a dilemma when she falls in love with a German officer through a shared love of music (she's a pianist and he's a composer).
Matt Damon is set to make a follically challenged appearance in Terry Gilliam's forthcoming dystopian fantasy The Zero Theorem, the actor has revealed. Speaking to the Vulture blog, Damon said he was looking forward to working with Gilliam for the first time in a decade. The pair previously collaborated on the US-born director's 2005 adventure-fantasy The Brothers Grimm. Damon said the former Python had been keen to make use of his recently shaved pate: Damon cut all his hair off for an upcoming science fiction project, Elysium.
Remember our threat to write a news story headed "American Assassin Finds New Rapp Star" when the producers behind the film locked down their leading man? Well, we can’t pull the trigger just yet, but it appears one Christopher Hemsworth may be the CIA’s top terrorist hunter, as CBS Films has offered him $10 million to star. The film, based on Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp novels, has been in development for years, and has passed through the hands of various filmmakers, including Ed Zwick.
Peanuts, the long-running comic strip that introduced Snoopy and Charlie Brown to the world, is to get a big-screen outing with support from the family of its late creator, Charles Schulz. Twentieth Century Fox Animation's Blue Sky Studios will release the film on 25 November 2015, in line with the 65th anniversary of Peanuts' debut and the 50th anniversary of the TV special A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Beyoncé Knowles has quit Clint Eastwood's forthcoming remake of A Star is Born for the second time, leaving the long-gestating project in turmoil, Variety reports. The singer and actor is believed to have walked away due to delays in announcing a start date for the film, a musical take on the popular story previously made three times by Hollywood. A Star is Born still does not have a male lead, despite a three year search during which Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr, Eminem, Christian Bale, Jon Hamm and Bradley Cooper have all reportedly come under consideration.
The woman who was sexually abused by film director Roman Polanski more than three decades ago in one of Hollywood's most long-running scandals is to write a memoir on the subject. Samantha Geimer, who was 13 at the time and is now 47, will publish The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski next autumn through Simon & Schuster's Atria imprint. Geimer has long argued against the prosecution of Polanski, who fled the US in 1977 for France after it became clear he would face jail time following his guilty plea to unlawful sex with a minor.
Nicolas Winding Refn has both put the brakes on Ryan Gosling's enigmatic wheel-man from last year's Drive purring back onto the big screen, and fuelled speculation he's already drawn up a road map for his return. "That is never going to happen," said Winding Refn, when asked by the Evening Standard about the possibility of a Drive sequel. "But the character of the Driver might return in another film.
Paul Dano is currently to be found on our screens as one of the title characters in Looper. And this week, he’ll romance real-life girlfriend Zoe Kazan in Ruby Sparks. But the actor is also making plans for a future film, snagging a role in Alcon Entertainment’s Prisoners. The film, which Denis Villeneuve is setting up to direct, finds Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Melissa Leo in the tale of a small-town carpenter (Jackman) whose daughter is kidnapped along with her best friend.
