Father Lamont undertakes his task reluctantly. He feels unworthy of his assignment. He also feels that Evil is literally an entity and that this entity is winning the battle over Good. His investigation takes him to Africa where he locates another recipient of Merrin's exorcising and learns something fascinating and terrible about locusts.

When a prank involving the trashing of a dope-dealing gang's car leads to the brutal rape of the innocent Heather by the gang, Brenda vows revenge, while fending off the romantic overtures of a dimwitted jock and the venomous remarks from his jealous girlfriend. In a riveting climax, Brenda ultimately delivers justice for her sister's stolen innocence.

The prison turns out to be brimming with decadence, corruption and sleaze, where the other female inmates are sadistic crack-selling lesbian rapists and the guards and warden are no better. Racial tensions are high as the inmates is divided into two factions, blacks and whites, who must either join together against the management or kill each other trying.
